Pop Report: Football, Soccer, Hockey Outpace Trends in Latest PSA Returns

PSA graded 1,047,413 items in October for a 3% dip compared to September and a 64% increase compared to September 2021. Read this month’s Pop Report from GemRate for the latest news and trends on PSA’s grading returns.

From a category perspective:

• The top two categories (baseball and basketball) both declined in October, while football, soccer, and hockey slightly outpaced overall trends.

The mix of the top 50 players (and characters) graded during June were as follows

16 – Football

13 – Baseball

12 – Basketball

8 – TCG

1- Hockey

An important consideration is what to make of this list. In the current situation where fears of junk slabs dominate the hobby, ranking high on this list likely is negatively correlated with price as that signals a meaningful number of slabs could move into the market in the near future. However, under normal circumstances, it could potentially be a leading indicator of positive price correlation as the list more accurately represents forward looking activity (i.e. bets being placed on players) and price potential.
